the loneliness of a toad eating a teacloth
A large-headed being on all fours enters the theatre, sniffing the crotches of the entire audience, marking some with a stream from of warm liquid from their flashing indeterminate genitalia. Using this same undefined discharge they mix together a green sea, a yellow sea, and a white sea in three bowls and place a small sponge island floating atop each. They give birth to three ants and place one ant upon each island. The ants write romantic literature, contemplate metaphysical philosophy, and masturbate repeatedly. The loneliness is unbearable. A cumulative sound poem builds on itself throughout the space as if silence had an echo. Tongues wag in the evening breeze.
Performance created for presentation at two experimental performing arts centres in Medellín, Colombia: Les Raras Queer Cabaret at Casa Centro – Centro Cultural and Liminales – International Festival of Contemporary Performance Practices at ImaginEros, October and November 2023.
