floating roots

A bunch of carrots are hanging from the ceiling. Snaking twine roots grow from them across the entire gallery space, being hammered into the wall by a human-sized rabbit in swimming trunks using a hammer connected to a contact microphone. A bowl of other carrots are distributed amongst the audience and a ‘crunch chorus’ is orchestrated of each person crunching at certain moments to create a hymn of placelessness. Rays of sunlight are auctioned off for the highest bid. The artist bathes their face. The hanging carrots are grated onto the ground alongside a sound sermon on the nature of belief and belonging.
Performance created at Myymälä2 Gallery on the occasion of Helsinki Relational Art Week, August 2022.
