Alf Portrait (These human-shaped hurricanes)

Alf Portrait (These human-shaped hurricanes) is a portal to a softer world, a crucible for debate over the nature of birds, an invitation to lick everything in sight, and an upright blanket eliciting waking dreams. Named after lines from a found poem discovered printed on the back of a sweater on the streets of Kibera, Nairobi.
Installation created from reclaimed textiles during the Kijana Textile Arts Collaborative Residency in Kibera Arts District. Used as part of the performance Each teardrop has its own eyes; every onion must fight the good fight during the opening of the ‘Beyond Garment’ group exhibition with Upendo Mkonya/Lavo Hands, Mtu Loko, Miss Wambale, and Paula Angar at HOF Gallery, Nairobi, Kenya, September 2025.
